Heartbreak

Our world stopped turning
Although the rest of the world
Somehow didn’t think it should wait
Until tears stopped falling
Before going on almost as if
It was just a small glitch,
That’s all.

When death stepped in so suddenly
And you left us without warning,
The beauty of your life, we saw,
Was matched only by its brevity.
Maybe you didn’t know they would be
Lost without you,
And anguished.

Bittersweetly, we open our eyes
To yet another day.
The Sun just keeps producing
As if anxious for us to awaken fully
To your presence real and new,
The shining of your face
Representing.

We sat, overwhelmed and silent,
Your first appearance filled the room.
Shining, smiling, present.
Later hiding from the crowd,
I know you were there – but where?
Then saying I need you.  Give them messages
From me.

  1. Wow!!! I can't BELIEVE you already had that much snow. Whew! I just got out the fall clothing last week, but that certainly did not include things like snow pants and snow boots, or even gloves.

So sorry for the loss you experienced...our thoughts and prayers have been with you often over the past couple of weeks.

    Take care,

    1. Most of it melted and left us mud to deal with, but we were sure happy to see the sun again. Thanks for thinking of us. We aren't out of the woods yet.

  2. Hmmm....Thinking of all of you with love and this is one of those times when we are glad we can do something that really helps...PRAY!

Your poem is just so special and your photos beautiful. I took note of the evidence of a sideways blowing blizzard on the brick work around your front door. I happen to know that is usually a protected area that would not have snow on it if it had not blown there. Two young men traveled through that area on their way from Minnesota with nine pregnant cows doing a 24 hour trip to SE Washington. It isn't any wonder their parents had a sleepless night worrying about them traveling in that blizzard plus multiple mountain passes. No time to stop, just had to keep moving. The father met them as they pulled into the driveway. We could all sense the relief. They stayed 24 hours and headed back to Minnesota for work on Monday...another 24 hour trip without stops but this time without the blizzard. Thankfully.

Especially enjoyed the photo of "The Old Time Blizzard" It's a work of art as many of your photos are.

    1. Oh my, those boys! It took me a minute to figure out who they were, but I did. You say you could sense their father's sense of relief - but I bet some of it was yours, and some of it is mine, now that I've heard about it. At least there were 2 of them together, and not a solo trip.

Have a fantabulous weekend, everyone! We are headed to our quick, 2-day anniversary trip, and the girls are going to their cousin's house. Hooray!

    2. I'm still clueless on who the weary travelers are, but it is a familiar refrain. This mama is learning something - maybe slowly - about calmly accepting the need for working long hours and through stormy nights. Courage, they say, is grace under pressure. As such, we have our moments when we face the test with less than perfect trust, and more than a touch of anxiety! This is not acceptable, of course.

Know you've put in lots of long hours with kids, waiting for your sweetie to come home - hope your time together was all you anticipated!

    3. It's 2 sons of the folks who live on the farm where your aunt and uncle used to live there in WW.

We had a very nice couple of days. Not a long enough break for me. Just right for my homebody hubby. And as long as it could be considering current time constraints (school/work). Now back to the regular same-ol, same-ol. Ah, but I made it to the grocery store and the gym this morning. Hooray :)

    4. Found out later there were over 10,000 head of cattle killed in this storm in ND. Back to the boys who brought their herd back to Washington... when their 9 pregnant cows were let out of the trailer they looked skinny. They had not had a drink or food for 24 hours. By the next day they looked great and there was a big decrease of water in their tank. When the boys started the noisy pickup to return to Minnesota the cows all ran full tilt to the far end of the pasture. They didn't want to be anywhere near that pickup. Also three kittens came in that trip and they were as cute as can be and one was especially friendly and bold so had to be passed on to a new home as it would not know to hide from the coyotes. The other two were skitterish and would hide okay. A cat lover took the bold one home for more careful protection.

    5. Oh, good to hear more about that! Our cat is doing a top notch job here keeping mice at bay. Rarely do we see evidence of her work, thankfully. I feel concerned about the cows going 24 hours without water, but it's quite entertaining to think of them high-tailing it away from the noisy pickup - is it any wonder?

    1. Thanks! Really enjoyed Greece, but glad to see our own familiar sunsets! The snow? Not so much. :)

  4. This post is quite touching. Just pray and pray some more for the comforter to be near. Again and again because the hurt keeps hurting.

    1. Thank you for all you do behind the scenes...these "firsts" make me wish I could be in Phoenix right now. So many steps to take through this healing process.
