Contrary Garden

  1. Ooooh pretty! Looks like spring has spring in WY! It is rather hot here. Girls are in the pool right now. I somehow managed to keep them out of it yesterday but they have been in it every other day since we set it up. Garden is growing great. Lettuce, spinach, peas, beans, cilantro, carrots, beets, tomatoes, bell peppers, parsley and chives. I managed to get groceries for over a week for less than $120 in part because of the produce we have in the garden. I'm on a stricter (?) budget now so paying close attention to things like that. Our finances haven't changed but taking an active approach to increase SAVINGS!!! (instead of spending every dime)

  2. Wow...sounds like summer there. Yes, we have some blooms, long awaited ones! Finally had lilacs blooming a couple weeks ago - slow to get started. I have about three more pictures I wanted to post, but I guess this was enough. Maybe they will go on next week. It has warmed up, finally. A little heat here and there has been nice, but it's a long ways from what it needs to be. Missed our flight to Arizona - I wasn't ready to tell that story! Ha! Good for you on the savings planning! Eight months worth is supposed to be the magic number, but lately there's more talk about not having a lot of cash. That would depend on your circumstances, of course. Garden sounds great and thriving. Awesome! Mine is being scorched and wind blown, but the newest addition of pinwheels is keeping the deer away, so that is progress! It really needs some TLC that it isn't getting.

  3. I love your colorful spring photos. So glad that winter has passed. Now we want to know about the flight to AZ. We have no garden, but have a few friends that are passing on their lettuce. Sure enjoying that. J

    1. My focus was on flowers, but I have tomatoes and squash and pumpkins and basil in. No lettuce or carrots planted, but now that I know the pinwheels work to keep the deer away, I can plant them, too. Have often been the beneficiary of Myrna's gardening - tomatoes, lettuce, squash. The tomatoes are weak looking, battered by wind, but still alive. The survival rate is not as high as the costs in my garden...I shudder to think. No doubt cheaper to buy my produce!

  4. Your photos are wonderful. My favorite photo is the one of you holding flowers. You look so beautiful, young and happy. I see happiness in your eyes. I think you should have flowers on your table every day of your life because it does much for you.

Then I also love your purple columbine photo. In your perennial garden I would guess?

Also the yummy food. You just keep it coming don't you? Good job.

I'm enjoying all your blogs and all the comments.

    Thanks for entertaining us.

  5. We had a lot of fun! I was on a mission to get my Mother's Day flowers...with no limit..., so I was the big spender of the three of us, and not all are planted yet! I didn't think it would take so long to get them placed, but between the rain and the wind, and the weeds...here I am! But the quack grass is under attack. Sorry to say, only 25% of it is under control, and you've no idea what a task it has been. I need your small assistants, perhaps! Yes, the columbine is one that is blooming lavishly this year! I think you're right, I should always be surrounded by flowers. The van was so full that the only place left was on my lap!
